Old Testament
Psalms 47
The Ascent of the Universal King
Overview
Psalm 47 calls all nations to jubilant praise of Yahweh, who has subdued Israel's enemies, chosen the Promised Land as Israel's inheritance, and ascended in triumph amid shouts and trumpet blasts — a universal kingship that Catholic tradition reads as anticipating Christ's Ascension and the eschatological ingathering of all peoples under the one divine King.
